We introduce you to our newest case. Today you are debriefing Adam. He is the newest member of the Primary Care Network ARRS staff, he is an ANP. He has just seen a 28-year-old patient who has threadworms, as does her 5-month-old daughter. A simple enough case I hear you say… but is it? It is your job to debrief Adam, and ensure that he has managed the case appropriately. Obviously, as this is an SCA case, things aren’t always what they seem. Are you able to work out what’s gone wrong, and manage the situation?

She has already been to see the Midwife, who has directed her towards you for your expert input. She wishes to know more about the antenatal screening programme in the UK. Specifically, she wishes to avoid unnecessary screening and have minimal intervention during her antenatal care. How’s your knowledge of antenatal screening? Are you up to the challenge?

We introduce you to our newest patient, who is a 7-year-old patient called Timothy. He was seen with his Mum at your GP practice. He had an ear infection, and it was felt to be viral, consequently, no antibiotics were prescribed. Mum later visited an ‘Out of hours’ GP, who reluctantly gave in to Mum’s concerns and prescribed antibiotics. Dad is now furious. “Why are the GPs at the practice so incompetent, when it was obvious that Timothy needed antibiotics!” He has booked an appointment with you to discuss his concerns.
